These are some of the skills focused on in our Pre-K: Reading Readiness: listening to and following directions, left to right progression when reading and writing, letter identification, and letter sounds. Math Readiness: patterning, sorting, one to one correspondence, shapes, size, and number recognition. Fine Motor Skills: manipulating small objects, tracing, painting, coloring, cutting, pencil grip, letter formation; Science: cooking, measuring, weighing, simple experiments and explorations; Awareness of self; respect of self and others, respect for community, waiting one’s turn to speak and play, and completing daily tasks. Please note if you go to Engage N.Y.Curriculum online you will see the curriculum we will be following. Please note that school begins at 8:10 A.M. Pick up is at 2:25 P.M. Breakfast will begin at 7:40 A.M. in the cafeteria. Please drop off your child in the schoolyard with Mrs. Romanov. Please pick up your child from the schoolyard. We understand that the first few weeks may be a little hard to make the separation, but there are a few things you can do to help ease the situation. It is so important to develop a routine that works well for you and your child. Always say good-bye and communicate with them when you will be back. Reinforce that you are comfortable with them being here. We will call you if your child does not feel comfortable. WE PROMISE! We want what is best for your child. Please send in a healthy snack for your child everyday. Please send in two extra sets of clothes, including undergarments and socks, to keep in school in case of an emergency. Please send in clothes in a large Ziploc bag, with your child’s name on the outside of the bag. If your child does need to be changed, please make sure their extra clothing gets replaced by the next school day. Also, please make sure you put your child’s name on all clothing they bring to school. This includes jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts. Please send in a box or two of Gallon sized Ziploc bags in case we need to send home a used set of extra clothing. It would be very helpful if your child knew the following skills and information. Please work on any of the skills and/or information below with your child if he/she needs help. 1. His/her full name, parent’s name, and phone number. 2. How to wash his/her hands with soap and water as well as how to dry them. 3. How to put away playthings and materials after using them. 4. How to use a tissue when blowing his/her nose. How to cover his/her mouth with an arm when sneezing or coughing.5. How to take off and put on clothing including jacket, mittens, etc. 6. How to fasten and unfasten clothing including zippers, snaps, and buttons. 7. PLEASE make sure your child knows how to take care of ALL of his/her bathroom needs. We realize many students may not have mastered all of the above, but working together, we are sure it can soon be accomplished. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year. We look forward to working together to make this year full of fun, learning, and personal growth for your child! Thank you so much for all your support, Ms. D. Mann/Mrs. M. Martini |
